I enjoyed this book a lot more than Carlo did The Prince of Mist because there seemed to be a lot more depth to the story and the setting was absolutely gorgeous.

An elderly woman arrives at the orphanage with a girl of their age, the intriguing Sheere, and so begins a fantastical rollercoaster ride of an adventure. The friends will have to make a stand against this evil, or have no hope for the future. Pursued by assassins, he must ensure the safety of two newborn twins, before disappearing into the night to meet his fate. Pwlacio ones who see horror in the heart of their fellow humans and search for peace at any price?

El Palacio de la Medianoche by Carlos Ruiz Zafón

Even though I did get a bit annoyed by the fact that the adults are conveniently absent throughout this whole story, I loved that the children are the focus of the book. They come alive with rich gothic descriptions.

I understand that it is meant for teenagers and The only reason that I am giving this book a star is because I happen to be medjanoche Zafon’s fan. Want to Read saving…. Yes, I’m a scaredy-cat, but still. Okay, it’s safe to continue reading the rest of the review now.

I also think that, aforementioned problems aside, Mr RZ definitely knows how to tell a thrilling story. I don’t know, I kept forgetting this book was set in India because the characters sounded too Spaniard. And then there are his characters. I understand that it is meant for teenagers and that you wrote it back in the s.

Esta vez somos llevados a la ciudad negra, Calcuta del siglo XX, donde un hombre huye, protegiendo la vida de dos bebes a los que el destino les dicto una suerte no deseada por nadie. Maybe it’s because I didn’t like Ben,or maybe it’s because I wasn’t particularly interested in the story. Set in Calcutta in the s, The Midnight Palace begins on a dark night when an English lieutenant fights to save newborn twins Ben and Sheere from an unthinkable threat.

The eerie atmosphere that prevails throughout the story. I must say, I did figure out the “who dunnit” element long before the book was nearing completion, mainly because it’s a totally “Zafon” thing to do. If you’ve read his stuff and read this, then you’ll probably know what I mean.

This book is not yet featured on Listopia. My only complain about Midnight Palace is that it’s set in India, which is as exotic a setting as you can get. Return to Book Page.

Raised in mediancohe orphanage in Calcutta, Ben has relied on the palacuo of his close knit group of friends and the kindness of the Headmaster. The first part of this book was a bit shaky, I will have to admit. The world belongs either to lunatics or hypocrites. Published July 12th by Editorial Planeta first published November 18th You may also read my review here: Notwithstanding the somewhat predictable foundation of the plot and the tacky little parts scattered in the storyline, I enjoyed this book immensely.

Then Ben discovers he has a sister – and together they learn the tragic story of their past, as a shadowy figures lures them to a terrifying showdown in the ruins of Jheeter’s Gate station. Still, I loved it.

I liked all the other characters, tho.
