Through an analysis of families, marriage and institutions, Balzac presents fully realized characters from diverse backgrounds. A distinctive element of this novel stems from gorkot compactness. I picked it up recently with bland expectations and found myself chuckling all the way through.

I was impressed that neither was a caricature, though, and their terrible behaviour was shown to be symptomatic of society’s warped priorities.
